Step 1: The pictures shown are from a Tunsgten E but the TX is basically the same. Before you start it's a good idea to back up your TX data by syncing with your computer or backing up to a memory card. Then turn the unit over and remove the 4 torx screws at the back of the case.
Step 2: Use a pry tool to gently release the 4 case clips on both side of the Tungsten TX back case. There are two sets on both side. Do this as gently as you can.
Step 3: With the case open you will be able to see the battery on the back of the TX logic board. It's held down with an adhesive tape - just gently pry the battery up, and then desolder the two soldering points to remove your old battery and discard it. Remove the old solder from the points and clean them well (perhaps adding some flux in preparation for your reinstallation).
Note: When you open the case there is a small plasic cover (for the memory slot/mic/power buttons) at the top of the TX that might pop off. It's just losely fastened over the top of the TX logic board, so if it falls up just put it back on before replacing the back cover.
Step 4: Resolder the new battery, make sure to maintain the same wire colors as the original connection (black on top, red on the bottom). Once resolder you can reconnect your battery to the logic board by using double sided tape. Be carefull to solder the new points quickly so you don't overheat the battery. |
| |
Step 5: Reinstall the back cover: It just snaps back together. Start by placing the bottom of the case (near the sync ports) in first, and then pushing downward until the clips snap into place. Then just screw in the original torx screws. Charge your unit and test it. Assuming everything works, congratulations on your succesful Palm TX repair! |
